Yes (should be approached with caution), we can consider Adventism as part of Christianity rather than Kingdom of the Cults or outside Christianity. The Adventist community is a diverse movement… But there is a clear confusion when you talk to the majority of Adventist regarding the unity in the Body of Christ. Why is there an exclusivity? Jesus prayed for the unity of his followers, the apostles also preached unity in the Body of Christ. This is also applicable to other denominations who are exclusive in their theology and mark themselves as the only true church of Jesus Christ.
- The primary issues that separate Seventh-day Adventists from biblical Christianity are (1) their unorthodox view of Christ’s work of atonement; (2) their illegitimate elevation of Ellen G. White’s prophecies; and (3) their legalistic insistence that believers are bound to observe the Sabbath and Mosaic dietary laws. All three of these issues touch fundamental doctrines of the Christian faith. It is for that reason that evangelicals ought to view SDA theology with great caution. Upon examination, its doctrinal distinctives fall short of biblical orthodoxy. ~ Nathan Busenitz
- (CARM helpfully lists their affirmations, denials, and most troubling teachings and provides this counsel: “There are too many problems within Seventh-day Adventism to recommend it as a safe church. Though there are Seventh-day Adventist groups that are within orthodoxy, there are too many of them that are not.”) ~ Tim Challies
- Since SDA does accept the foundational doctrines of historic Christianity (the Trinity, Christ’s true deity, his bodily resurrection, etc.) we do not believe that it should be classified as a non-Christian cult. It is our conviction that one cannot be a true Jehovah’s Witness, Mormon, Christian Scientist, etc., and be a practicing Christian in the biblical sense of the word; but it is possible to be a Seventh-day Adventist and a true follower of Jesus, despite certain distinctive Adventist doctrines which we consider to be unbiblical. ~ The Gospel Coalition
| Groups ( Classification ) | Short description |
| 1. Historic Adventism (click to view long description) | Traditional or Historic Adventism is an informal designation for conservative individuals and organizations affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church who seek to preserve certain traditional beliefs and practices of the church. They feel that the church leadership has shifted or departed from key doctrinal “pillars” ever since the middle of the 20th century. Specifically, they point to the publication in 1957 of a book entitled Seventh-day Adventists Answer Questions on Doctrine; which they feel undermines historic Adventist theology in favor of theology more compatible with evangelicalism. |
| 2. Progressive Adventism (click to view long description) | Progressive Adventism are members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church who prefer different emphases or disagree with certain beliefs traditionally held by mainstream Adventism and officially by the church. Progressives typically disagree with one or more of the church’s basic beliefs such as the Sabbath or “distinctive” beliefs such as the investigative judgment, the remnant, a future global Sunday-law, or a use of Ellen G. White‘s writings. They also tend to question some of the denomination’s 28 fundamental beliefs: with debate arising on the nature of the Trinity, perpetuity of the Law of God, the Nature of Christ, the Gift of Prophecy, Creation or observance of the seventh-day Sabbath.” History The movement emerged with certain interactions with evangelical Christians in the 1950s, which included the publication of Questions on Doctrine in 1957. This period marked a shift in the broader Christian world’s perception of Adventists, from being viewed as a sect to being more commonly accepted as a legitimate Christian denomination. |
| 3. Innocent Churchgoers | SDA churchgoers who are unaware of the issues and ongoing conflicts within and outside the SDA Church. |
| 4. Offshoots | Splinter groups that claim to be the true Seventh-day Adventists but already have different organizations and beliefs that are not aligned with what they call the mother(SDA) church. |
According to the Scriptures:
John 17:21 NLT I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me. ~Jesus Christ prayed for his followers
1 Corinthians 1:10 NLT I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose. ~Paul
1 Corinthians 1:30 NLT God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin. ~Paul
1 Corinthians 12:12-13 NLT The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. 13 Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit. ~Paul
Galatians 3:26-28 NLT For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes. 28 There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus. ~Paul
Ephesians 4:4-6 NLT For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future. 5 There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all, in all, and living through all. ~Paul
Philippians 1:27 NLT Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ. Then, whether I come and see you again or only hear about you, I will know that you are standing together with one spirit and one purpose, fighting together for the faith, which is the Good News. ~Paul
Philippians 2:2 NLT Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. ~Paul
1 Peter 3:8 NLT Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude. ~Peter
Jeremiah 23:30-32 NLT “Therefore,” says the Lord, “I am against these prophets who steal messages from each other and claim they are from me. 31 I am against these smooth-tongued prophets who say, ‘This prophecy is from the Lord!’ 32 I am against these false prophets. Their imaginary dreams are flagrant lies that lead my people into sin. I did not send or appoint them, and they have no message at all for my people. I, the Lord, have spoken!
- Grace Reigns Adventist Community Experience is one example of a Christian group inside Seventh-Day Adventist that preaches Jesus Christ as the center of worship not Sabbath. “Righteousness by Faith” instead of “Righteousness by Law”.

🚨 WARNING: there is a danger reading the book “Great Controversy”. 🚨
As the storm approaches, a large class who have professed faith in the third angel’s message, but have not been sanctified through obedience to the truth, abandon their position and join the ranks of the opposition. By uniting with the world and partaking of its spirit, they have come to view matters in nearly the same light; and when the test is brought, they are prepared to choose the easy, popular side. Men of talent and pleasing address, who once rejoiced in the truth, employ their powers to deceive and mislead souls. They become the most bitter enemies of their former brethren. When Sabbathkeepers are brought before the courts to answer for their faith, these apostates are the most efficient agents of Satan to misrepresent and accuse them, and by false reports and insinuations to stir up the rulers against them. – GC 608.2
🚨 Testimonies for the Church, vol. 6 🚨
Before the Sabbath begins, the mind as well as the body should be withdrawn from worldly business. God has set His Sabbath at the end of the six working days, that men may stop and consider what they have gained during the week in preparation for the pure kingdom which admits no transgressor. We should each Sabbath reckon with our souls to see whether the week that has ended has brought spiritual gain or loss. {6T 356.3}
It means eternal salvation to keep the Sabbath holy unto the Lord. God says: “Them that honor Me I will honor.” 1 Samuel 2:30. {6T 356.4}
