Test the Spirits
1 John 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.

- Is the Gospel of Jesus Christ being preached?
- Are lost souls being converted?
- Are lives being changed? (Matthew 7:17-19)
We can learn from Jonathan Edwards, who in 1741, wrote The Distinguishing Marks of a Work of the Spirit of God. He asked five questions to help determine if it’s a work of the Holy Spirit or not:
- Does it bring honor the the Person of Jesus Christ?
- Does it produce a greater hatred for sin and a greater love for righteousness?
- Does it produce greater regard for the Scripture?
- Does it lead people to the truth?
- Does it produce a greater love for God and man?
